I know this is a giant statement in the history of buzzer beaters, and certainly the stakes don't compare to Jordan vs. the Jazz in the NBA Finals or Laettner vs. Kentucky in the Elite Eight, but from the standpoint of how amazing the shot itself was, this one takes the cake... no if ands or buts about it...
Devin Harris tonight for the Nets vs the 76ers...
before viewing the tape, notice that Harris first attempts to shoot the ball with about .9 seconds left, only to have it blocked, he regains (albeit only partially) control of the ball with about .2 seconds to go, just in time to fling it- totally off balance- from half court!!
nothing but rip cord!!

Was Jordan's Jazz shot a buzzer beater? Maybe shot clock, but not end of game. Wasn't his best game ender against the Cavs?
ReplyDeleteAlso what happened to "critique sports media and analyze how they attempt to influence the public while pushing their own agenda and financial interests". I mean, if I wanted to read about best buzzer beaters I would have logged on to ESPN.com last night and voted for the top 10 (it was the headline). I mean, Arod/Cowboys/Phelps/Dale Jr. if I wanted this conversation I would have tuned into Around The Horn.
Let's get wild and try something that isn't the lead story on 9/10 major sports websites. Then, maybe we'll all have a reason to come back around........THE HORN.
although you rip me apart here MacDizzle, i truly appreciate your input.
ReplyDeletequite frankly, you are basically the only person whoever writes ANYTHING, so thank you.
it becomes a bit discouraging when I spend time writing stuff, only to doubt that anyone is even reading- so to see some actually participating- I'm pleased
I am starting a email program to alert people of new posts, so I am hoping that it increases reader awareness and participation.
that being said, i did write in my introduction that i would write about any and everything that i felt important and relevant at the time.
I write about Devin Harris' shot last night because it was truly remarkable- imagine if it had been Lebron or Kobe. Obviously the media would have been all over it.
Nets and Sixers? Devin Harris? Not so Much.
But here is TheSportsVerdict giving it its due.
Did you see 'TSV' tea-bagging Kobe and 'Bron a few weeks ago after their respective monster games against David Lee and the Knicks?
Not so Much.
ESPN had me covered on that one.
Watch again Mac Dizzle, and show me the buzzer beater that trumps Devin Harris.
I'm waiting for the YouTube link...
moreover MacDizzle, you critize me (again, thanks most of all for the involvement) for talking about PayRod, the 500 and Phelps, but, is the commentary you get from TSV similar to what you read in the mainstream media? Which, ironically, takes me right back to critiquing media and their financial interests...
ReplyDeleteThe SportsVerdict has no sponsors to keep happy, I dont have to be PC.
I can say, yeah, that's right, who gives a damn in Phelps hits the bong like cheech and chong? who's the victim?
Guys on Around the Horn or whatever other weak ass show you watch, yeah, they have to be mindful of what their sponsors want to hear and what opinions they want to represent.
The NASCAR announcers for FOX, do you think the sponsors that pay their salaries are okay with them saying the sport is won largely on silly luck and rule interpertations?
No, not so much.
By the Way... how great was Sandblast 2003?
How about our antics at G Phi B and A D Pi?
How did that go over?
