Biggest Upset Ever?

USA over the Soviet 'Red Army' team in the 1980 Olympics- unreal.
NAIA Chaminade over #1 Virginia on Christmas Eve 1982- more unreal.

However, the difference here is that the WBC team from the Netherlands defeated the Dominican Republic TWICE.

Had the USSR been given another crack at team USA 3 days later. Final score USSR 7 USA 2.
Virginia with a crack at redeeming the 77-72 loss vs Chaminade? UVA rolls by 30, maybe 40 or 50

The D.R. lost to the Dutch 3-2 on Saturday afternoon, considered the biggest upset in international baseball history.

Surely the Dominican Republic (loaded with Jose Reyes, Big Papi, Hanley Ramirez, Miguel Tejada, Jose Guillen on and on) would not allow the Dutch to beat them again!

Wrong, not only did the DR lose, they failed to score for 10 innings! The Dominican eventually got the lead in the 11th, only to allow 2 runs, the last of which on an error, to lose 2-1.

The Dutch are "loaded" with washed up Sidney Ponson, never-was Randall Simon, career AAA outfielder Gene Kingsale and a handful of low level minor league MLB prospects.

This is the basketball equivalent of USA vs Angola. Hockey equivalent of Canada vs. Kazakhstan.

Caribbean media is already describing this as a "National Embarrassment" in the Dominican Republic.

Huge upsets happen. But twice in 4 days?

Lastly, both games were played in front of hugely partisan Dominican crowds in San Juan! It would be one thing if Big Papi had been kickin' it pre-game at an Amsterdam coffee shop.

This is amazing.
