The Matt Cassel Saga

So, KC gets Matt Cassel for the 34th overall draft choice.

Wow, Clearly this means that Detroit has bitten, hook line and sinker on Matt Stafford.

Detroit, in theory, could have gotten their starting QB, for their 3rd draft choice in this April's draft (number 33 overall- they have number 1, and because of the Roy Williams trade, number 20)

This means, again- in theory, they could have drafted Aaron Curry- now the consensus number one player in the draft with the top overall pick, taken an OT at number 20- deep draft for tackles, and used number 33 to acquire Cassel... sounds like a pretty good draft to me!

The pressure on Stafford to produce, IMMEDIATELY will be immense!

Sounds like the ghosts of Matt Millen are still lingering near 8 Mile

Moreover, how about all of the other NFL teams in dire need of a QB who declined to offer up something better than pick 34 for Cassel?

What did teams see or not see in Cassel that made them think '08 was a fluke? Have these teams decided that Rhett Bomar, Josh Freeman or Nate Davis will have better futures than Cassel?

A few years down the road, either New England is going to look really stupid for dumping Cassel for only pick 34 overall or, Matt Cassel's name will be spoken in the same breath with that of Scott Mitchell.

TheSportsVerdict is thinking its going to be the former...
